Maize market driven by snack demand

The global maize market is forecast to grow, according to a report put out by ReportLinker. Maize starch is adaptable, easy to modify and has a wide range of industrial applications.

The Covid pandemic has impacted on the supply chain for various products, and as a result, maize flour producers have had to contend with these challenges in addition to increased expense for agricultural raw materials and packaging supplies.

Consumer preference has caused a dramatic increase in businesses offering a balanced breakfast composed of ready-to-eat items. To reduce cholesterol and control blood sugar levels, there has been a shift towards healthier meals. Demand for maize has increased as a result; it’s also used as a food coating by people in restaurants and at home.

Based on type, the maize flour market is segmented into white and yellow. The white segment acquired the highest revenue share in 2021, because it’s used to make flour similar to corn flour. Based on users, the market is divided into commercial and household. The household segment recorded a large share in 2021, as many families have begun creating their own dishes as an impact of the pandemic.

Speaking regionally, the market is across North America, Europe, APAC and LAMEA. North America acquired the largest revenue share in 2021, which was influenced by demand for the production of tortilla chips, and other baked and snacked goods. Maize starch proves useful when making processed foods with favoured maize flavour such as extruded snack goods.

Main players operating in the market include ADM, Gruma, Cargill, Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods, North Dakota Mill, and others.
