New Net Zero Guide Launched for Scotland’s Food and Drink Sector

A new handbook has been introduced to assist Scotland’s food and drink industry in understanding the terminology and concepts related to net zero and sustainability.

The Scotland Food & Drink Partnership (FDF) has released the “Navigating Net Zero Handbook,” which is available for free download. This comprehensive guide simplifies net zero jargon and offers practical advice to support businesses in their sustainability initiatives.

This resource aims to equip companies with the knowledge necessary to align with industry peers in achieving climate change goals.

A recent survey by PwC indicates that 80% of consumers are willing to pay more for sustainably produced goods, with a willingness to spend nearly 10% extra on environmentally friendly products.

Additionally, Visit Scotland’s 2023 Visitor Survey highlighted that 46% of visitors engage in food and drink activities, and 19% of long-distance travelers specifically choose Scotland for its culinary offerings.

Iain Clunie, FDF Net Zero Programme Director, emphasized the importance of the initiative: “As members of the food and drink industry, it is crucial that we take proactive steps to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to the global effort against climate change.

“Understanding the language around emissions and net zero is vital for driving real change in Scotland’s food and drink industry.

“By knowing and understanding these key terms, businesses can better engage in conversations, interpret data, and make informed sustainability decisions.”
