AB Mauri North America acquires Omega Yeast

AB Mauri North America has finalised the acquisition of Omega Yeast Labs LLC, effective from 14 August 2024. Omega Yeast, a business that complements AB Mauri’s division, AB Biotek, is a prominent player in the craft brewing liquid yeast market within the United States, operating out of the Midwest with a workforce of nearly 50 employees. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Omega Yeast’s headquarters for research, development, and production are located in a cutting-edge, 14,000-square-foot facility in Chicago. The company is highly regarded in the domestic craft brewing industry for its strong innovation capabilities and pioneering yeast strains.

“The acquisition of Omega Yeast will further strengthen and accelerate our North American specialty yeast business for craft beer,” stated Brent Fenton, President of AB Mauri North America. “This acquisition offers a unique opportunity to blend AB Biotek’s global technological expertise with a leading, high-quality liquid yeast producer based here in the United States.”

Omega Yeast Labs boasts an extensive portfolio of yeast strains, catering to a diverse array of craft brewing styles, ranging from traditional lagers and ales to West Coast IPAs, hard seltzers, and beyond.

“Over the past decade, Omega Yeast has been a trusted supplier of premium liquid yeast solutions to both professional and home craft brewers across the country, since Lance Shaner and I founded the business in 2013,” said Mark Schwarz, Co-Founder of Omega Yeast. “We are excited about the future under the AB Mauri and AB Biotek umbrella, as we anticipate expanding our offerings in both liquid and dry yeast solutions and building a more comprehensive portfolio to meet the evolving needs of craft brewers today and in the future.”

The Omega Yeast brand will now join AB Mauri’s iconic Fleischmann’s Yeast for baking and AB Biotek’s Pinnacle portfolio for beer, wine, and distilled spirits as part of an enhanced product lineup. This acquisition, along with AB Mauri’s recent investments in a specialty dry yeast plant in Hull, UK, and a beverage applications centre in Etten-Leur, the Netherlands, highlights the company’s commitment to broadening and improving AB Biotek’s offerings in the beer and broader alcohol beverage market globally.
