Dawn Foods launches 70s classic

Dawn Foods UK and Ireland has introduced a new ready-to-use Black Forest Frosting, inspired by classic dessert flavours, as part of its ongoing initiative to help bakers elevate their creations with exclusive, limited-edition ingredients.

Targeting the current trend of retro hybrid sweet bakes, one of the most prominent movements in the bakery sector, the Black Forest Frosting follows in the footsteps of Dawn’s previously released dessert-inspired ingredient, the limited-edition Peach Melba Frosting, which debuted earlier this summer.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic 1970s dessert, Dawn’s Black Forest Frosting encapsulates the rich flavours of a traditional Black Forest Gateau, combining indulgent chocolate with the tartness of brandy-soaked black cherries.

The frosting features a distinctive red chocolate colour, ensuring it stands out on the shelf and is particularly suited for eye-catching Autumn/Winter or Halloween-themed bakes.

Made using Dawn’s renowned quality frosting as a base, the product is not only soft and fluffy but also retains its shape, making it perfect for decorating cupcakes, filling donuts, or layering cakes. Additionally, it is freeze/thaw stable, offering bakers greater flexibility.

The frosting is crafted with natural colours and flavours and contains segregated palm oil, aligning with current consumer preferences for natural ingredients.

Dawn notes that dessert flavours, especially those with a nostalgic twist, are currently among the most popular trends in food and drink.

“Bakers can tap into the trend for format and flavour ‘mash-ups’ by utilising limited-edition ingredients. Incorporating Black Forest Frosting can instantly elevate a plain cupcake into a premium ’70s revival-themed bake, offering strong sales potential,” says Jacqui Passmore, Marketing Lead for West EU & AMEAP at Dawn Foods.
