Banana Boogie Bakery, a cherished establishment in Belair, South Australia, has been awarded the grand trophy for the best sausage roll in Australia for the second time in 2024. This prestigious honor was bestowed upon the bakery by the Baking Association of Australia, narrowly edging out runner-up Ray’s Patisserie from Queensland by just one point.
The acclaimed bakery outperformed 49 other competitors from across the country, entering a total of 274 sausage rolls into the contest.
After their triumph in 2023 with the massive ‘O.G’ sausage roll, owner Jason Spencer aimed to refine the recipe with a slightly thinner pastry for this year’s competition. However, the judges advised against any changes, recommending Mr. Spencer stick with the original formula.
“The head judge at the end of the night said, ‘Your pastry is just impeccable,’ like he just can’t fault it,” a proud Mr. Spencer shared.
“We pride ourselves on our pastry; it’s amazing. We strive for the perfect pastry every day,” he added.
The judges also commended the winning roll for its ‘neutral’ and ‘balanced’ flavor, which harmonized seamlessly with the onion and salt, and avoided the common pitfall of being too dry.
