BAKO select sales rise 12% despite pandemic

BAKO Group has reported a 12% rise in sales of the BAKO Select range in December 2020 compared to December 2019, which the company sees as an indicator of buoyancy in the independent bakery sector, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

BAKO Select is BAKO’s own brand range, which has approximately 200 products in total split into three categories: Ingredient, Create and Finish.

Ingredient products cover all the fundamentals required for baking from scratch, from lard through to flour and sugars. Create is a professional range of mixes, colourings, flavours and toppings aimed at helping bakers create their own delicious offerings and supported by recipes and ideas from BAKO’s experts. The Finish range includes carefully selected products, from sausage rolls, pies and pasties to confectionery, that are intended to be quick and easy to add to bakery counters to thaw and serve, bake off or decorate.

Marketing Manager, Gemma Webster said: “Despite the challenges presented by Covid-19 over the last year, we’re pleased to report the BAKO Select range saw a 12% uplift in December compared to the previous year, which we see as evidence the independent baker and catering markets are riding the storm.

“Sales were also boosted in the critical festive period with recent successes including the launch of the new and improved BAKO Select Festive Slice last October, which took centre stage of the Frozen Savoury range and achieved double the sales from the previous year.

“New products have also been added to the Finish range at the start of the year with a selection of frozen cookie pucks, available in four flavour varieties and ready to bake, complementing other labour-saving products within the range.”
