Carolina Foods Celebrates 90 years

Carolina Foods, a beloved bakery based in North Carolina and renowned for its iconic Duchess Honey Buns, doughnuts, pastries, and pies, proudly announces the grand opening of its new, state-of-the-art facility in Pineville, a suburb of Charlotte. Located just 10 miles from its historic site in the Queen City’s South End neighbourhood, this milestone marks a significant chapter in the company’s illustrious 90-year history.

The new headquarters represents a key element of a strategic growth plan initiated three years ago, bolstered by an investment from Charlotte-based private equity firm Falfurrias Capital Partners, which focuses on expanding middle-market businesses. Carolina Foods commemorated this dual celebration of the new facility and its 90th anniversary with a grand event attended by hundreds of employees, industry leaders, and civic dignitaries.

“This pivotal milestone symbolises a new era and the culmination of decades of dedication and commitment to the customers we serve,” said Carolina Foods CEO Dan Myers. “The delicious smell of our honey buns now fills the air in Pineville, a testament to the innovation and quality that has kept us thriving for 90 years, and we are grateful to celebrate this new chapter surrounded by our esteemed employees, community members, and partners.”

The new facility is now operational, with further work planned over the coming months to install and commission additional production lines, enabling Carolina Foods to nearly double its production capacity compared to the South End location. Production will increasingly transition to Pineville, with the original operation expected to phase out by the end of 2025. Future plans for the South End property, still owned by the Scarborough family, have yet to be determined.

Joining the grand opening celebration was Paul Scarborough, son of founder Vernon Scarborough, whose vision and entrepreneurial spirit laid the foundation for Carolina Foods’ enduring success. Representatives from Falfurrias Capital Partners and Mecklenburg County were also present, underscoring the collaborative effort behind this monumental project and highlighting the brand’s significance to the county.
