As the global market leader in Colouring Foods, GNT is an authoritative voice in anticipating the biggest trends in food and drink colours. For 2021, GNT is forecasting that LOVE COLOUR RED will spark innovation throughout the industry.

Red’s iconic status is already firmly established in the worlds of cosmetics, beauty, fashion, film and design. Now, it is ready to invigorate the world of food and drink.

The modern nostalgia trend is bringing fresh twists on classic treats, with options including ‘red velvet’ cinnamon rolls and brownies bringing a real touch of romance.

Snacks & cereals
As snacks become ever more popular, shoppers want products that can provide exciting twists. Options such as red chili chips
and berbere popcorn are perfect, with their red colours adding to the sense of adventure

Savoury
More and more consumers are exploring the possibilities of plant-based. Reds can provide visual appeal by ensuring plant-based meat alternatives look just like the real thing.

Desserts
The premiumisation trend is creating demand for delights such as chia seeds with vibrant red fruit compote. A burst of colour injects a renewed sense of excitement and exploration into the chia seeds, while reds and pinks have been shown to enhance perceptions of sweetness.

In an online webinar, Emma Leys, Marketing Communications Assistant for GNT UK said: “Modern consumers are searching for bakery experiences that provide multi-sensory inspiration. With 61% of consumers worldwide becoming more experimental with food and drink in the last five years. Colour is important to sit alongside flavour and texture to fill that sweet sensory experience.”
