GNT releases latest colouring foods for vivid shades

EXBERRY by GNT has developed a purely oil-based Coloring Food to enable manufacturers to achieve vibrant orange shades in applications that have a low water content.

Created from paprika seed oil and paprika pulp, EXBERRY Shade Vivid Orange was made to meet global demand for low-dosage, clean-label colouring ingredients that deliver bright orange hues.

The new product enables manufacturers to achieve a high colour intensity in applications where high dosage levels prove an issue including oil coatings for snacks, decorative coatings and sauces such as mayonnaise.

“EXBERRY Shade Vivid Orange – OS is an exciting new innovation that fills a clear gap in the market, offering an effective alternative to artificial colours and paprika oleoresin across a broad array of applications,” explained Sonja Scheffler, Head of Product Management at GNT. “Its exceptional colour intensity means it can provide visual differentiation while still maintaining completely clean and clear labels.”

EXBERRY Coloring Foods are created from edible fruits, vegetables and plants using physical processes and no chemical solvents. Because of the way that they are made, the plant-based products are considered to be food ingredients rather than additives according to European Union regulation. As a result, EXBERRY Shade Vivid Orange can be described on the ingredient list as ‘Coloring Food (paprika oil)’.

This is in addition to a new, oil-dispersible yellow concentrate released by the company which is made from turmeric – a recognisable ingredient, the company explained.

The liquid is produced by dispersing small, turmeric-based powder particles which are created through a multi-stage milling process in sunflower oil. This enables it to deliver bright yellow shades in a range of applications including compound coatings, ice cream coatings, fat compounds for chocolate decorations and seasoning mixes for savoury snacks.

“Our EXBERRY OD colours provide outstanding visual intensity in some of the most challenging applications and EXBERRY Shade Bright Yellow – OD is an exciting new addition to the range,” added Sonja. “Turmeric is a well-known, on-trend ingredient that is approved for use in most countries worldwide and provides wonderfully vibrant yellow hues. The new product is pumpable for low-water applications, too, making it easy to handle.”

The EXBERRY OD range also contains red, pink, orange, blue and green shades as well as a safflower-based yellow.
