International Bakery sits down with, Dennis Gunnell, IBIE Chair (and President at Formost Fuji), to discuss the upcoming IBIE event. 

  1. What will IBIE 2022 offer?  

IBIE is the grain-based food industry’s largest, most important trade event in the Western Hemisphere. Every three years, baking professionals from all segments of the industry and across the globe gather together in Las Vegas to do business, learn, and advance the future of baking together. The expo offers the complete range of equipment, supply and ingredient solutions and showcases the newest baking technology.  

Bakers can expect to see a broad range of trends on the show floor—from digital innovations and scaled artisan baking solutions to continuously evolving ingredients and the rise in direct-to-consumer e-commerce sales. There have been rapid advancements in the last three years and IBIE 2022 is just the place to see them. And outside of the exhibit hall, our world-class IBIEducate programming consists of more than 100 learning opportunities where participants can glean insights from experts, learn new skills and hone existing ones. 

2. How impactful will this be in the bakery industry? 

IBIE is where the next generation of baking technology is launched, innovations are unveiled, and new trends begin. IBIE 2022 will be especially impactful as it is the most significant international event to take place in-person over the last few years. Bakers, suppliers and manufacturers are ready to reconnect. We’re excited to provide an opportunity for our community to engage.  

3. What are your expectations of this event? 

It’s clear that exhibitors are excited to connect face-to-face with current and new customers once again. With over 80 percent of the exhibit hall space sold and the remaining space is anticipated to fill quickly, we’re confident that attendees will be able to meet with many of their current suppliers and explore several new offerings.    

We have heard from wholesale and retail baking companies just how essential it is to have access to the latest technology and robust and timely education to overcome the recent challenges our industry is facing. It’s been a tumultuous time, and businesses are hungry to find solutions for everything from supply chain issues to ingredient and labour shortages. IBIE 2022 is uniquely positioned to meet those needs and assist businesses at this vital time.  

4. What will be the biggest themes at the event? 

Throughout the last 100 years, IBIE has represented collaboration, advancement, and innovation for the industry. The specific theme for IBIE 2022 is “IT’S ALL BAKED IN.” That is to say, IBIE is comprehensive in every capacity imagined. Through the variety of exhibits, dynamic education or international connections offered at IBIE – professionals from every market segment encompassed by grain-based foods and across every job function can have their specific needs met when attending.  

5. Are there health and safety concerns regarding the pandemic? 

 IBIE organizers are keeping tabs on current data, monitoring advice from the CDC, Nevada and Las Vegas health authorities. We’re also considering what other shows have done in order to make IBIE 2022 a safe, productive event for everyone involved.
