Close to 20,000 professionals registered for the International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE), which took place in Las Vegas from 17 September to 21 September. Over the four day show, attendees met at the Las Vegas Convention Center looking for latest equipment, ingredient and supply solutions from more than 800 industry suppliers. Baker attendee participation was 25% greater than pre-pandemic levels.
Some exhibitors stated that this was the best show for them for connecting with buyers outside of the US, buyers that many exhibitors wouldn’t have been able to reach on their own. Despite covid-related travel challenges, the number of bakers increased by 34% over 2019, from more than 105 countries and making up more than 27% of baker attendance.
“IBIE 2022 has exceeded all expectations,” said Dennis Gunnel, IBIE chairman. “The Baking Expo has a long history of championing innovation aimed at the changing needs of our bakers—from the advancements on the show floor and IBIEducate presentations to the high-quality buyers walking the aisles. During a time when trade events are getting a fraction of their pre-pandemic participation, our industry showed up.”
Show highlights include more than 100 education session which were held, demonstrations from Master Bakers and two new pavilions – one focused on sanitation and the other on cannabis as an ingredient. Several awards shows were held including the Tiptree World Bread Awards, which for the first time were judged and presented at IBIE. Winners were awarded in 16 categories which included overall winner, home baker and specialty savoury.
Alongside this, The Retail Bakers of America’s 21st Annual Pillsbury Baker’s Plus Grand Champion Creative Decorating Competition recognised overall winners, and winners in the fondant, sculpted hyper-realistic, buttercream and wedding categories. IBIE will return to Las Vegas 13-17 September, 2025.
