The International Bakery Awards announces Joanne Burns, Reformulation for Health Manager at Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Scotland, as an official judge for this year’s prestigious awards.
With more than 20 years of experience in the food and health industry, Joanne brings a wealth of expertise, leadership, and advocacy to the judging panel. Since 2019, she has spearheaded the Reformulation for Health programme, a government-funded initiative providing free technical support to help Scottish SMEs improve the nutritional profile of everyday food and drink products. The programme, hosted by FDF Scotland, has become an instrumental resource for health-driven innovation in the sector.
Joanne’s impact on the bakery industry in Scotland has been both profound and far-reaching. A dedicated supporter of local bakers, she has worked in close partnership with bakery businesses to help them reformulate their products without compromising on taste or quality. Her efforts have empowered bakeries to meet evolving consumer expectations for healthier options while maintaining commercial competitiveness.
Her strategic contributions include co-developing the Healthier Bakery Fund in collaboration with Food Standards Scotland, which provides financial assistance to bakeries undertaking reformulation projects. She has also played a pivotal role in developing industry resources and upskilling initiatives, enabling small businesses to build reformulation capabilities that endure.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Joanne to our judging panel,” said Joseph Clarke, Editor of International Bakery Awards. “Her passion for driving health-conscious innovation and her hands-on work with bakery SMEs make her a perfect fit to help us honour the best in baking.”
Joanne joins a distinguished panel of industry professionals who will assess this year’s entries across a range of categories, recognising excellence, creativity, and innovation in the bakery sector.
