Valentine’s Day can be a bit of a minefield, especially for over half of daters and new couples (54 percent) who find it hard to strike the perfect balance between “too much” and “not enough” when it comes to celebrating with their new squeeze.
In fact, new research commissioned by Krispy Kreme found that over half (56 percent) of daters or those in relationships admit they’re dodging making plans altogether — with a further half (51 percent) saying making Valentine’s Day plans too early on in a relationship makes a person look too keen.
To help couples tackle this tricky holiday dilemma, Krispy Kreme is teaming up with real-life local dating app happn to spill the beans on the UK’s top date spots for a chill, no-pressure vibe. Plus, couples who show up to these spots on February 14th, will score a Doughnuts & Dates starter kit including happn’s top ‘Teasers’ cards to break the ice, a Krispy Kreme umbrella, plus a sweet 4-pack of Hearts In Bloom doughnuts, perfect for sharing!
The research also found that for the ‘newly cuffed’ Brits that are starting a fresh relationship, just under half (49 percent) believe that Valentine’s Day gifts are ‘tacky’. More than half (55 per cent) think an engagement ring would be the single worst gift to receive, while 49 per cent would be dismayed to unwrap some undies.
A further 43 percent are not planning on buying a gift for their new partner or date this year. Yikes! However, on the flip side, over a quarter (29 percent) admit they would feel disappointed if their lover didn’t plan anything for Valentine’s Day.
There are also challenges for those still finding their potential partner, with 71 percent of actively dating singles hesitating or avoiding going on a first or the first few dates around the 14th February – with a further 71 percent saying it could feel ‘awkward’ and ‘cringey’. In fact just under a quarter (23 percent) of Brits avoid a first date in February all together!
From 12:00 to 14:00 on 14th February, daters and couples who turn up to St James Park, Moonlit Park and Piccadilly Gardens can bag themselves a free Doughnuts & Dates pack to help navigate this tricky holiday without coming off too strong or settling for a run of the mill gift.
Guy Meakin, Krispy Kreme UK President, comments; “We’re delighted to be partnering with the dating app happn, who share the same opinion as us that Valentine’s Day dates shouldn’t need to be stressful, especially in initial dates and new relationships. They’ve helped us track down the top spots across the UK for more authentic, relaxed dates where we can reward couples who are taking it slow with some of our delicious Heart In Bloom doughnuts.”
Claire Rénier, dating expert from happn, comments; “We’re delighted to be teaming up with Krispy Kreme this Valentine’s Day to help continue fostering real-life, local connections. Whether you’re sharing a moment with someone new, are five dates in, or even starting a new relationship, we’ve located the top spots for a no-pressure Valentine’s Day. This way daters can focus on what really matters this Valentine’s – enjoying one another’s company in their local area, one doughnut & date at a time!”
