südback, renowned bakery event, have released that due to the Coronavirus the show cannot take place this year and has been postponed
südback in autumn would have been the first event of the bakery industry that was planned since the corona restrictions and could have been held under conditions after the current relaxations of the regulations. For this purpose, a hygiene and safety concept was developed to ensure that the trade fair could be safety staged. However, many exhibitors are uncertain on account of the current situation in Baden-Württemberg. This uncertainty recently manifested itself in the form of cancellations. In spite of extensive preparations, this development was reflected in the demand and booking level for südback. An exhibitor survey conducted by Messe Stuttgart revealed that there is no adequate basis for südback this year.
Messe Stuttgart is therefore forced to cancel the Trade Fair for the Bakery and Confectionery Trades from 17 to 20 October 2020. “In the present circumstances, we are unfortunately unable to guarantee the customary and desired success for exhibitors and visitors,” said Andreas Wiesinger, a member of the Board of Management of Messe Stuttgart. “We very much regret the developments since the bakery industry is therefore losing its central platform for exchanging information this year. This platform would have been necessary after these difficult months with the corona crisis.”
The decision was taken in close cooperation with the exhibitors and after amicable discussions with the südback partners, i.e. BÄKO Head Office of Southern Germany, the State Association of Guilds of Württemberg Bakers and the State Association of Guilds of Baden-Württemberg Confectioners. “Although it is a great pity that südback 2020 will not take place, we at BÄKO fully accept the decision together with Landesmesse Stuttgart GmbH and the State Associations of the bakery industry. What’s more, the decision exemplifies the great care, farsightedness and consideration of the concerns of the exhibitors and visitors. Special thanks are due to the management of Messe Stuttgart and the südback Project Team for the fair dealings with the entire industry in a spirit of partnership under the difficult general conditions at present. We are looking forward to 2022! This preserves the enthusiasm for südback – among the exhibitors, visitors, BÄKO regional cooperatives and partners. During numerous discussions in the last few weeks we ascertained that everyone involved has become fond of südback,” said Gunter Hahn, Managing Director of BÄKO-ZENTRALE eG. Martin Reinhardt, Head of the State Association of Guilds of Württemberg Bakers, also commented: “We had really hoped that südback 2020 would have set a marker for the bakery trade. We fully support südback and will devote our entire energy, competence and expertise to ensure that südback 2022 repeats the successes from previous events.” Klaus Vollmer, Head of the State Association of Guilds of Baden-Württemberg Confectioners, also sees great anticipation for 2022: “The confectionery trade is looking forward with confidence to südback 2022. We will use the time to set new standards and create a successful trade together with the organisers,” said Klaus Vollmer.
The next südback will take place in the regular cycle from 22 to 25 October 2022.
