Sammontana Italia Group has announced the formation of a new entity, Sammontana North America, through which it has entered into an agreement to acquire La Rocca Creative Cakes — a Canadian company based in Toronto, Ontario. La Rocca operates within the retail in-store bakery sector, producing cakes, desserts and frozen pastries for both the Canadian and US markets.
Sammontana Italia is a leading producer and distributor of sweet and savoury baked goods, frozen pastries, and ice cream, serving hotels, restaurants, cafés, and large-scale retail channels throughout Italy. The acquisition of La Rocca marks a significant step in the company’s international growth strategy and strengthens its presence in the North American market.
The move will also bring complementary synergies to Sammontana’s Bindi brand, which is already active in North America. These synergies will benefit both sales channels and product assortments, according to the company.
La Rocca Creative Cakes was founded nearly 40 years ago by Lina Givens and Harvey Easson, alongside their sons Marty and Michael. The business has since grown to become one of Canada’s leading premium dessert manufacturers. Michael Easson, who has served as President and CEO for the past 25 years and overseen a period of substantial expansion, will remain at the helm following the acquisition.
La Rocca’s Toronto-based bakery produces over 120,000 premium cakes each week on average and reported revenues exceeding CAD$70 million in 2024. The transaction is expected to close in March 2025, subject to customary closing conditions.
