TREK adds to healthy snacking options

Natural snacking brand TREK has expanded its range of Protein Flapjacks with the addition of a new flavour, an on-trend Peanut Butter bar which will join its range of Cocoa Oat, Salted Caramel, Smooth Lemon, Whit Choc and Raspberry, Cocoa Coconut and Original Oat varieties.

Made with naturally gluten-free oats and covered in a layer of peanut butter flavoured topping, the bar is aimed at shoppers who are seeking out convenient, tasty and healthy snacks to have on-the-go and to capitalise on increasing consumer demand for natural, plant-based protein.

The new Peanut Butter Protein Flapjack is a vegan snack with 100% plant-based ingredients, gluten-free oats with 9g of plant-based protein and fibre.

“TREK has had a really strong last 12 months … with our Flapjack range being one of the main drivers of this growth. UK consumers are snacking now more than ever with 66% of UK adults snacking at least once a day and 77% of bars shoppers now looking for added protein,” explained Alice Boardman, Senior Brand Manager at TREK. “So, it felt like the perfect time to launch our new Peanut Butter Protein Flapjack, taking inspiration from an increasingly popular and on-trend flavour.”

64% of consumers are looking for healthier options, according to TREK, as 49% are more likely to choose healthier snacks, with plant-based protein snacks registering the highest popularity among the consumers looking for a natural energy boost.

“With 41% of people wanting a snack that provides energy or helps them refuel. Brands are responding by replacing empty calories with functional ingredients,” added Alice Boardman.

The Peanut Butter Protein can now be found in retailers Sainsbury’s, Booths and ASDA, with a later launch in Tesco and online via Ocado in the coming months. They are sold in a multipack of 3x50g at a price of UK£2.50 or a single 50g bar at £1.
