Grupo Bimbo and Tesco will be among the speakers attending the 2023 British Society of Baking (BSB) Conference, which will be held at the Tythe Barn in Bicester, on 19 April 2023.
The theme of the conference will be ‘Challenges and Changes’ focusing on what’s to come. Over the course of one day, industry leaders and experts will be sharing insights into topics such as energy-saving equipment, combating shelf life and recruiting the next generation of bakers.
In the wake of acquiring UK bakery business St Pierre Groupe, Jon Smythe, UK Managing Director of Grupo Bimbo will be discussing in his talk what makes the bakery company such a unique business, its journey and learnings so far operating in the UK, and will also share insights into future plans and ambitions.
Speakers from Tesco will be challenging suppliers and potential suppliers to help with more effective communication in an increasingly digital world, as well as being aware of energy-saving equipment and the environment. Neil Olley and John Lamper from Tesco will be sharing information on communication and changes needed to deliver efficiency while maintaining quality products. How can suppliers become more effective? They’ll discuss this and more in their talk.
From Campden BRI, Phil Vosey will be tackling the topic of mould and extending the shelf life of bakery products, as two major concerns of ingredient suppliers, bakers and retailers. In his talk, he’ll share his knowledge of latest microbiological challenges and research, as well as discuss solutions to these concerns.
Sophie Carey gained a BSc Baking Technology Management and was awarded Freedom of the Bakers’ Company. She also won Young Baker of the Year at the National Bakery Awards – giving her key insight into what works for students and apprentices and what’s not quite so right. She’ll be discussing student competitions, industry opportunities, social media and that all important topic, recruitment. How can we better recruit and support the next generation of bakers?
David Wright, Managing Director of G.R. Wright and son James, Commercial Director, will reveal how investment, combined with innovative thinking, has overseen the construction of one of the most modern and technically advanced milling facilities. Where does the next generation go from here? Do father and son share the same vision? You can find out this and more at their talk, where they’ll also be covering combining heritage with investment, entrepreneurship and technical research.
