Oddie’s Bakery, a cherished family-owned establishment with a history spanning over a century, is poised to relaunch seven of its Lancashire outlets. This development comes after the bakery shuttered all 13 of its stores in January, resulting in the loss of 100 jobs.
The planned reopenings are made possible through a collaboration with Waterfields Bakers, another family-run enterprise. The targeted locations include shops in Nelson and Colne, as well as five in Burnley. The goal is to welcome customers back by early April.
Scott Davies of Waterfields expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Our priority is keeping these local bakeries alive and thriving. We understand how important Oddie’s is to the community.”
Established in 1905, Oddie’s Bakery has been renowned for its traditional bread, savory pastries, and sweet treats. Despite enduring challenges such as two world wars and the Great Depression, the bakery faced significant hurdles in recent years due to soaring energy costs and a decline in high-street foot traffic.
The community has warmly received news of the bakery’s return, with patrons expressing their joy on social media platforms.
This revival of Oddie’s Bakery mirrors a broader trend of retailers making comebacks after closures. Notable examples include M&Co, Cath Kidston, Wilko, and Toys R Us, all of which have recently reestablished their presence on the high street.
