CAMA’s CL169 side-load cartoner delivers a compact, efficient solution for delicate products like Jaffa cakes, combining sustainability, smart automation and precision engineering

The CL169 side-load cartoner is equipped with an innovative loading system that combines flexibility, sustainability and safety. The customer approached CAMA to have a compact solution, capable to handle 235 slugs/min of delicate Jaffa cakes. In order to exploit several business opportunites, the other key requirement was flexibility in the counts of the secondary packaging cartons. CAMA answer has been a cartoner equipped with a B&R ACOPOStrack. This enables to be “tolerant” at the infeed pitch, while extremely precise when coupling with the pitch of the buckets of the cartoner, making it possible to group by even and odd numbers, single and double layer. As the system runs without vacuum, there is no need neither for compressed air, not for noisy vacuum pumps.

The ACOPOStrack control is fully integrated with the Rockwell one of the cartoner, thanks to the open-platform approach of CAMA software department. Changeover is provided by a simple and intuitive HMI procedure. The integration of coding and AI-driven camera for printing verification make sure that each customer is receiving packs with all key information, fully complying with local rules.

CAMA supply is then completed by one of its flagship wrap-around casepackers, the model FW749, which packs cartons is shelf-ready cases, with or without lid on top, according to customer preferences. This machine too is equipped with fully automated changeover in specific functional groups, making the process easy, fast and, above all, repeatable, granting a vertical start-up.

The complete line demonstrates how CAMA continues to bridge mechanical precision with smart automation. Its digital-ready architecture allows remote diagnostics and performance monitoring, ensuring consistent uptime and predictive maintenance. This digital integration not only boosts efficiency but also gives customers valuable data insights into production trends and optimisation opportunities.

The CL169 also reflects CAMA’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. By eliminating compressed air and vacuum systems, it significantly reduces energy consumption and noise emissions, creating a cleaner and safer working environment. The machine’s modular design means it can easily be adapted to future packaging requirements or product formats, supporting long-term operational flexibility and reduced total cost of ownership.

Below you can find key features of the packaging machine described:

  • two products’ formats: 150 gr (12 biscuits) entry speed 200 ppm or 125 gr (10 biscuits)entry speed 235 ppm
  • Wrap case or tray + lid configurations
  • In entry there is ACOPOS TRAK for products infeed
  • High performance in every single phase of the process
  • soft handling of the product in order to avoid its damage
  • Totally integrated with Industry 4.0 platforms
  • Ink coding + visual check to avoid any issues or errors during the packaging flow
  • Infeed Metal detector

These and several other features make Cama packaging line an innovation for bakery industry, staying at the top of innovations in the field. For more information, you can visit: www.camagroup.com
