International Bakery Magazine gets to know Peter Vos, Sales Director, Verhoeven Bakery Equipment Family
- What do you most like about working in the bakery industry?
The huge variety, there is so much creativity in it! I also find the whole process behind it impressive. Every day is different and there are endless possibilities.
- What job did you want when you were a child?
I actually wanted to join the marine, mainly because I always wanted to travel. I ended up doing something completely different, but funny enough, I still travel all over the world now, just with a completely different mission.
- Who do you most admire and why?
Good chefs. They often know how to come up with the most creative and unexpected ideas. I also admire the people who build something beautiful in the bakery and bring it to a successful result.
- What was your favourite holiday and why?
I am a sailor and I make my own wine, so you can usually find me on holiday either on the water or in my vineyard. I also like to travel a lot! I love Australia, and when it comes to nature, I think Iceland is absolutely beautiful!
- If you had to live somewhere else for a year, where would it be?
Australia, without doubt! I’ve lived there already for a while and it feels a bit like a second home.
- Do you prefer sweet or savoury foods?
Why choose? Both have so much to offer. There is a huge variety in each category and I enjoy both.
- What is your speciality dish when cooking for friends/family?
Preparing delicious dishes on my Big Green Egg and serving them with my own wine is a real treat for me and my guests.
- Can you share with us one of your proudest moments/achievements?
Starting BVT almost 25 years ago. And next year on 4 October, we will celebrate our 25th anniversary. Surely that feels like a milestone to be proud of!
- What’s one baking trend you think will define the future of the industry?
Automation and Artificial Intelligence. This will grow rapidly in our world and therefore also in bakery technology.
- If you could share a loaf of bread with anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?
With someone who truly appreciates it. Bread is so much more than just a piece of food. If someone understands that and can enjoy it just as much, then I am happy to share my bread with them.
