Mennel acquires Renwood Milling

Mennel has acquired Renwood Mills, and is now officially Mennel Milling & Bakery Mix effective 1 September, 2022. Mennel initially entered into a joint venture agreement with Plaza Belmont in 2016 to jointly operate Renwood Mills, but has now acquired the remaining 50% of Renwood Mills from Plaza Belmont and will have complete control and oversight of all operations moving forward, including the mill and bakery mix plant.

The Newton facility has a long history, as the location includes an 80 year old milling and mix facility with a daily capacity of 7500 cwts. Newton is the largest business in Newton, North Carolina, as it employs over 100 team members. Mennel employs over 750 people company wide and is a family owned company, now in its fifth generation of Mennel family leadership.

Food manufacturing operators at the site will continue to produce a variety of private label retail products, custom flour and corn based foodservice mixes, and wholesale bulk flour.

As part of the transaction Mennel agreed to sell the branded portion of the Renwood business to Homegrown Family Foods, a consumer branded products company based in Kansas. The acquired retail and foodservice brands include Southern Biscuit, Tenda-Bake, RediMix, Formula L and Nancy Jane.

In August Mennel acquired the business interests of the Sanford Miling Company including Snow Flake and Daily Bread brands as well as production of all Sanford Miling products which has been moved to Mennel Milling and Bakery Mix facilities in North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia.

Bradley Saine, a lifelong Newton resident, will lead the Mennel Newton team in his new role as Plant Manager.
