ADB runs bread course in English

The Academy of the German Bakery Craft Weinham (Akademie Deutsches Bäckerhandwerk Weinheim – ADB) will be expanding its bread sommelier training course as it offers the course in English for the first time this September 2023.

The Academy has offered the course since 2015, for experienced artisan bakers who want to become a Bread Sommelier. The course has since received national awards in Germany and the European Innovative Vocational Education and Training Provider Award 2019 presented by the European Commission.

The course goes beyond teaching production methods and focuses on training bread ambassadors “who know everything about bread”, ADB has said. One example is the 22,000 year old history of bread making, sensory skills, raw material knowledge, knowledge about bread culture of different nations, bread nutrition and more.

It brings together the best and most successful bakers as only bakery owners, head bakers, instructors in bakery schools, bakers with professional experience or people with comparable qualifications are able to take part.

The course has already proven itself with 200 successful graduates in Germanspeaking countries. Knowledge gained from the course will help to shape bread specialists, who will be able to pass on their passion for bread.

It consists of two presence modules in Germany: in September 2023 and September 2024. The kick off module will take place 18-22 September 2023 at the German National Bakers Academy in Weinheim, Germany. Classes include exciting topics and is one hour from Frankfurt International Airport.

Graduates of the course will then be able to use the title of Certified Bread Sommelier and use the associated Bread Sommelier logo for their own advertising purposes – a certification, the ADB has said, that will help with personal reputation and provide access into the international community and network of Bread Sommeliers.
