As the search for the Scottish Baker of the Year 2024/25 begins, current champions Mimi’s Bakehouse has asked the public to decide who bakes the best.
“As the current Scottish Baker of the Year champions, we wanted to share the love as the search starts for the next winner of this amazing competition,” said Michelle Phillips who created Edinburgh business success story Mimi’s Bakehouse and is soon to be President of competition organisers Scottish Bakers. “Today I am asking everyone who shops in their local bakery, not just here in Edinburgh but all across Scotland, to do one simple thing: Vote for your favourite bakery in the Scottish Baker of th Year Awards 2024/25.”
Organisers Scottish Bakers are encouraging the public to vote their favourite bakers, to reocgnise the hard work and skills of the local bakery which also counts towards the Customer Choice awards.
To mark the launch of the competition, Mimi’s Bakehouse and Scottish Bakers are joining forces on social media with a range of giveaways, video content and takeovers designed to engage bakers across Scotland as well as consumers.
“Our aim is to collaborate as much as possible with our members so that this year’s competition reaches as many Scots as possible,” added Michelle.
The social media takeover and customer giveaway event marks the opening of customer voting for the Customer Choice awards. Shoppers vote for their favourite bakery and from those Scottish Bakers identifies a ‘Customer Choice’ winner in each of the four business categories; Craft Baker, Retail Craft Baker, Wholesale Baker and Bakery Cafe.
Scotland’s bakers are now also invited to submit products of their own choosing for judging across the familiar categories: Biscuit, Bread including traditional and sourdough, Individual Cake, Morning Roll including Buttery, Savoury, Scone including Potato Scone, Celebration Cake, Viennoiserie, including French and Danish style pastries and Free-from Bread, and Biscuits and Cakes.
“We are delighted to give the public a say with our Customer Choice awards. It’s a great opportunity for our members to reach out to their customers and communities and get people talking about great, traditional Scottish baking. It’s really easy to vote too, ask your bakery for their unique QR code to scan in store now. Alternatively, log on to the competition website www.bakeroftheyear.scot to vote,” said Ian McGhee, President, Scottish Bakers.
Voting opened on 7 February until 3 April. The judging day will take place on 20 March at Carnegie Conference Centre, Dunfermline. The winner will be announced at the Glasgow Hilton on 10 May.
