Syntegon has outlined six automated packaging configurations for biscuits, cookies and crackers, with an emphasis on gentle handling, high output and the ability to accommodate different product and pack formats.
The packaging machinery manufacturer published the latest portfolio overview on 31 August 2026. It brings together feeding and counting equipment, flow wrappers, robotic and linear-motor handling technology, cartoning and case packing to provide bakery manufacturers with options ranging from individual machines to integrated lines.
The systems are designed to handle products either flat or on-edge and cover applications ranging from conventional round biscuits and crackers to sandwich cookies and thin or brittle products, including gluten-free varieties.
Handling delicate bakery products
One of the systems incorporates Syntegon’s count feeder, which groups round biscuits or cookies into the required quantity before transferring them into trays or directly to a flow-wrapper infeed. The feeder can process up to 3,600 products per minute, with flow wrapping possible at up to 350 packs per minute.
A separate measuring-loader solution is intended for biscuits and crackers of different shapes. Combined with vibratory feeding channels, the system can produce up to 400 slug packs per minute. Manufacturers can change between long and short slug configurations in less than ten minutes, according to Syntegon.
For bakeries requiring both flat and on-edge packaging, Syntegon is also using linear motor technology to provide different configurations on the same system. A conveyor-based version can receive up to 1,600 products per minute and produce up to 320 flat-stacked packs per minute or 95 on-edge slug packs per minute.
Automation across the line
Reducing breakage is a significant consideration when automating biscuit packaging, particularly where products are thin, brittle, filled or otherwise sensitive to mechanical handling. Syntegon’s systems use controlled transfers, vibratory feeding and linear-motor movements to limit product damage as output increases.
The company is also offering configurations that extend beyond primary packaging. Cartoning and case-packing equipment can be integrated downstream, enabling bakery manufacturers to automate the process from product handling through to secondary packaging.
Packaging material flexibility is another consideration. Syntegon’s Amplified Heat Sealing technology can be used with suitable mono-material films, while its Smart Duplex Measuring Loader configuration can also be specified with paper-forming and sealing capability.
For industrial bakeries producing a growing number of biscuit and cookie formats, the principal benefit is therefore not simply increased line speed. Combining gentle handling with faster changeovers and different pack configurations offers manufacturers greater scope to run varied product portfolios on common packaging equipment.
